Motivation
The foundation has been established in the memory of our beloved daughter Dr. Garima Singh who left us too soon on August 15th, 2020 at the age of 31 years. Mitthu, as Garima was fondly called, was unfortunately diagnosed with LUPUS at the age of 12 years.
As per doctors and medical researchers, LUPUS is one of the most complex diseases without any perfect treatment. It gradually affects multiple organs reducing the life expectancy of the person in most cases. Garima lived with this disease for nearly two decades. It started off by impacting her kidneys and gradually moved to lungs and heart.
While the disease harmed her organs, one thing it couldn’t do any harm to was Garima’s indomitable spirit to live and succeed in life. There were countless challenges in her day-to-day life including but not limited to giving school exams with swollen eyes, completing school and college work on time, restrictions on physical activity and spending several hours in the hospital to take IV medicines.
However, her confidence and determination was never deterred. Not only did she complete her studies, she excelled at it and achieved everything she wanted to in a short span of time. Garima completed her undergraduate studies in Biotechnology from Amity University. She didn’t want to settle with a Bachelor’s degree and refused a lucrative job offer to pursue Masters in the same field from BITS Pilani.
During Masters, she got the opportunity to intern with the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics. This fuelled her interest in the related field of Bioinformatics and she decided to do a PhD in the field of Bioinformatics.
